The Farmers Market as a Vehicle for Sustainability, Localization, and Building Community Joins us for an evening with the creators of the Noe Valley Farmers Market as they discuss how they started the market, the relationships they have developed with local farmers and the community, and the role of the market in shaping the culture and politics of Noe Valley as well as the challenges they anticipate now that Whole Foods is moving into our neighborhood.
We will begin the evening with a presentation by Farmers Market Board Member Rich Hildreth, who will show and comment on his twenty-minute DVD "HOMEGROWN: Do It Yourself Grocery in San Francisco," which describes the distinct histories of and challenges facing the Farmers Markets in Noe Valley and Bayview-Hunters Point. We will follow this with a panel discussion with Noe Valley Farmers Market Board Members and Founders Leslie Crawford, Peter Gabel, and Steve Powell.
