-- Noe Valley Ministry members Jivat Mukhi and
Shanti Emerson
will speak about some of the sacred places they have visited
in India. Jivat grew up in Pune, India (south of Bombay) and moved to
the Bay Area in 1979. Shanti, an American and Jivat's partner, has
visited India four times.
Mother India holds probably more sacred places than any other country
on earth, and these draw hundreds of thousands of pilgrims each year.
Some of the places Jivat and Shanti will discuss include the Gandhi
Memorial, Bodh Gaya (where the Buddha received his enlightenment),
Dharamsala (where the Dali Lama resides), the Golden Temple in Punjab, the holy
city of Varnassi, and the Taj Mahal. Slides also will be shown.
Jivat and Shanti also will offer a two-week tour of Rajasthan, India,
limited to ten travelers, starting January 10. Places visited will
include Gandhi's cremation site, New Delhi, Varanasi, Sarnath, Agra, Taj
Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri, Bharatput, Jaipur, Khimsar, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur,
Ranakpur and Udaipur.
